Community Involvement

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama continues to live up to its longstanding reputation as “The Caring Company.“ Our Corporate Value, “Give Back to the Community“ is a natural extension of this philosophy. The combined use of our corporate resources and enthusiastic participation of our associates allows us to positively impact the communities we serve.

The United Way of Central Alabama

We are proud to be a Pacesetter leader in supporting the needs of the community through The United Way of Central Alabama. All of our associates contribute through Fair Share giving, allowing a small percentage of each paycheck to be contributed to the United Way of Central Alabama in making a difference in our community. Our Company is committed to actively striving towards a healthier, happier community. Our annual Day of Caring event allows associates and their families to invest time and effort to benefit various United Way agencies.

But don’t just take our word for it - Associates can attend one of our annual United Way of Central Alabama fairs at our Headquarters to see for themselves how their financial contributions and volunteer hours support organizations whose sole purpose is to give back to our community.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama Kids Mercedes-Benz Marathon

Since 2012, Blue Cross has been the presenting sponsor of this program that encourages regular exercise and healthy lifestyles at an early age. Our associates volunteer to make the day special for children as we provide coordination for the program’s final mile during the Mercedes Marathon Weekend. This is just another example of how our associates get involved to support promoting healthy lifestyles throughout the community.

Be Healthy School Grant Program

Blue Cross launched the Be Healthy School Grant Program to fight childhood obesity. Each year, the company awards grants up to $10,000 to schools across the state. The grants are used to implement school-based health and wellness programs that emphasize increased exercise, nutrition education and parental involvement during the school year.

Chick-fil-A Corporate Challenge

We recognize the value of health and wellness. Each year, associates compete in the Chick-fil-A Corporate Challenge against other companies and organizations in fun, yet challenging team sports such as tug of war, dodgeball, golfing and bowling. Through good-spirited competition, Blue Cross associates demonstrate their commitment to community involvement and healthy activity.
