Discover the Magic of Birmingham

Birmingham is the largest city in the state of Alabama and the county seat of Jefferson County, although the city also occupies portions of Shelby County. Nestled at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains at the cross-section of two major railroads, the city was once the primary industrial center of the southern United States. At the height of the nation's manufacturing age, the city grew so fast in population it was dubbed the "Magic City." In recent years, Birmingham has been named by various groups as one of the best U.S. cities in which to live.

Today, Birmingham has transformed into a center for medical research, banking and service-based industry. With a vibrant downtown, a burgeoning loft community, a world-class culinary scene and an abundance of green space, Birmingham is still the "Magic City."
